How to use a latex mould with concrete to make a ornament or garden statue
- Prepare the mould: Clean the latex mould and apply a releasing agent such as vegetable oil or silicone spray to the inside of the mould to prevent the concrete from sticking. Place the mould in a support structure or frame to keep it stable during the pouring process.
- Mix the concrete: Mix the concrete according to the manufacturer's instructions. The consistency of the concrete should be similar to that of pancake batter. You can add colorant or other additives to the mix if desired.
- Pour the concrete: Pour the mixed concrete into the latex mould, filling it to the top. Gently tap the mould to remove any air bubbles that may have formed.
- Set the concrete: Allow the concrete to set for several hours, or until it becomes firm to the touch. The exact time will depend on the type of concrete used and the temperature and humidity of the environment.
- Demould the statue: Once the concrete is set, carefully remove the latex mould from the concrete statue. Gently peel the mould away from the concrete, being careful not to damage the statue.
Finishing touches: Use sandpaper or a grinding wheel to smooth any rough edges or imperfections in the statue. You can also apply a sealant to protect the statue from the elements and give it a polished finish. Even paint it or leave it natural, the choice is yours
Overall, using a latex mould to make a concrete statue requires some patience and attention to detail, but with the right tools and techniques, you can create a beautiful and durable work of art.
